Things To Do

Lincolnshire is a county full of contrasts, full of history and heritage brought to life by friendly local characters and rural English charm. Whether visiting for the first or 10th time, there's always something new to discover here, fresh temptations on offer.

Louth Market Town

This charming Wolds market town is only a 12 miles from the sea and short trip from the coastal resorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe, the city of Lincoln, and only an hour's drive from Boston. The relatively traffic-free roads mean that you can enjoy your taking in views of the Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – Louth’s idyllic rural setting.

Horncastle
This old market town was formerly the Roman fort of Banovallum and parts of its walls still survive. The town also staged famous horse fairs that could last up to 10 days. Today Horncastle is best known as a centre for bric-a-brac and antiques.

Cleethorpes
The town of Cleethorpes is situated on the estuary of the River Humber in North East Lincolnshire. It is a seaside resort linked to neighbouring fishing town, Grimsby.

There is plenty to do for holiday makers and regular bus and railway services. There is a pier on the seafront which first opened in 1873 and the promenade which opened in 1885. Close to the pier and next to the Coast Guard on Central Promenade, there is a Royal National Lifeboat Institution Station. Cleethorpes Rescue also protects the beach.

Although Cleethorpes is widely known as a seaside town, the ‘sea’ is actually the mouth of the River Humber. Visitors can enjoy there time spent here or at other attractions and landmarks, which include; Pleasure Island Family Theme Park, the Discovery Centre, Meridian Point, The Jungle Zoo and Ross Castle. Ross Castle is a mock ruin of a castle built in 1863 by Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway and was named after Ernest Ross, secretary of the railway company. It was recently re-opened to the public in 2008. As well as these attractions, local bus services mean that visiting local areas is easy. Grimsby is a popular choice, where you can visit the Fishing Heritage Museum or go shopping.
